Journey into clay

“I like experimenting with materials, processes and designs to create objects that bring beauty to daily rituals and living spaces.”

Françoise trained as a potter in the last 5 years, although she have been cultivating a fascination with ceramics all her life, taking in the ancestral and diverse ceramic traditions of her native France and later, that of her adopted home in the UK for many years where she was a regular visitor to the V&A museum, the Tate Modern and the Design museum.

Inspired by interior design and architecture as much as the organic patterns of nature, her work has evolved from purely functional and wheel thrown to increasingly include sculptural abstract pieces. Simple yet bold forms and a restrained colour palette let the clay shine.

Having recently completed the New Zealand Diploma in Ceramic Arts, Françoise works in her home studio in Hamilton.
