Collection of work
It is the person’s responsibility attending our workshops to recognise and collect their work after the Pottery Studio has put the work out for collection either in the studio or one of the mobile venues. The Pottery Studio is not responsible for any damage to the work after firing.
Persons Must have their name and/or mark clearly visible on the bottom, and must take a photo of their work to correctly identify it. This is to minimise being taken by the wrong person.
As storage and space is always limited. Work can only be stored for 3 months after it comes out of the kiln and placed on a shelf ready for collection. If they do not collect in that time their work will be offered to a charity or disposed of.
The work is ready for collection, usually within 3 to 4 weeks after the date of the workshop. It can take longer depending on the studio’s kiln firing. If a group, try to keep work together as much as is possible, but due to loading space in kilns this is not always possible. We can post photos on Facebook and Instagram or other social media when work comes out of the kiln. We do not contact individually to advise the work is ready to collect.
The work has to dry out properly before we glaze the work. The work will be ready for the kiln which is then fired either one or two times to around 1300 degrees.
Firing in its very nature does have risks for many reasons therefore The Pottery Studio cannot be responsible for any technical or breakage failure in the kiln, drying process or storage. This includes work not correctly finished, such as air bubbles, cracks and so on. All Paper and moulds must be taken out. There are no refunds for work that does not survive or is not the expected result. You have paid to attend a workshop and no guarantee is given for the finished result
Things to Understand and Acknowledge in the Pottery Studio
Your work may break, crack, explode or just not survive during:
- Making
- Drying
- Bisque Firing
- Application of the glaze
- Glaze Firing
It happens and while we attempt to help your creation to survive at all times, not all do. Even the top potters in the world have the same problems sometimes. Therefore we cannot guarantee the completion of your work. Payment is for the workshop of 2 hours
If your creation does not survive, we do not refund nor give you a replacement workshop unless offered by the tutor.
Amount of clay, glaze and time.
We are trying to keep our costs as low as possible in order to keep the cost of the workshops low and affordable. This means that we have based our prices on a specific amount of clay thus a maximum size of made item in order to cover the costs of the clay, the colourants, the glaze, the kiln space and the electricity costs. We try to be accommodating regarding the amount of clay required.
Collection of creations.
Studios are open Tuesday to Saturdays 10am to 3pm and some evenings if we have workshops. With the mobile venues your work can be collected the next visit to that venue.
The time taken to process your creation has a number of factors including its drying time, size and thickness. Once ready for collection we post a picture of some of the items on our Facebook page. But all items cannot be seen so it is appreciated if you come and collect your items as soon as possible once completed as storage becomes an issue. Sometime you work might not look like you think as colours change as well as size.
- Once we have stored them for 3 months, we will dispose of them unless you advise otherwise.
- We do not contact you individually to advise that your item is ready for collection.
- We do not find them for you and deliver them to you.
- It is important to accurately identify your item when collecting so the identifying mark on your creation and a photo is helpful.
Completion on the Day of your Workshop
It is kind and helpful if you can tidy up a little once you have completed your creation.
- Put your creation in the allocated area with the former removed and your identifier on it’s bottom
- Unused clay goes into the reclaim buckets
- Tools go back where you found them
- Rubbish goes in the rubbish bin
- Brushes are put in the water container on your table
- Underglaze pots are put back in the glazing area
- Aprons are hung back up on the rack.
- Please wash your hands in the water bucket provided so as to not rinse clay down the drains and totally annoy the landlord and the plumber.
If someone is from outside of the area we can package and post for a basic postage and package cost, but cannot accept any responsibility for damage in transit.
